I live in the UK in zone 8B. We moved into this east-facing dorma bungalow last year and have just started shaping the front and back gardens. I'm a huge fan of little cottage gardens and I'd love to cover the front of the house in roses.
Basically, I'm looking for something that will ideally cover the area as fast as possible. After some research, I figured a rambler might be best for coverage/growth rate? I was also looking for a pale pink variety with smallish-medium repeat flowers or at least a long flowering season to get the best out of them.
What would you guys recommend? TIA

 | So I bought a house in the winter time (covered in snow) - now that everything is dry I have noticed a specific section of my back yard is always completely saturated with water. Under and around the house is the same - nothing wet or indicated witness except this section which is maybe 15ft off the house down a significant slope. The septic is over 50 meters away on the opposite side of the house. We’ve had warm and dry weather for almost two weeks straight so there is a next to 0 chance this is any type of runoff. I’m convinced this an under ground leak but other equally uneducated people said it might be a natural spring - which… who builds a house on a spring?! In the photos you can see the wet spot on the rock running down to the lake and the section of grass that is just pure muck. I’ve called a plumber and he came out last week and said this was beyond his scope. I’m super remote so it will take at least 2-3 more weeks to get someone else out. Any thoughts prayers or suggestions would be helpful and super appreciated. |

My husband and I filed our 2021 taxes in April 2022. We were to receive a refund of $3,529. Our electronically filed return, however, was kicked back because someone had fraudulently filed taxes with my husband’s social security number. We had to verify we were who we said we were and send in a physical copy of our taxes. We sent it in right away, but we missed one signature line, so they sent it back in November’22. We signed it and sent it back the same day. Then, supposedly in December of ‘22 they issued us a refund check, but the USPS sent it back as “undeliverable.” (We have lived in the same house for 12 years and zero reason for them to not deliver it.) I then started calling in January of ‘23. The girl supposedly reissued the check and told me to wait the 4-6 weeks. After 6 weeks and no check, I called again and the lady claimed the first lady never requested the check be reissued. She supposedly requested it. Another 6 weeks went by with no check. I called and the lady said she couldn’t do anything because the same tax return had been resubmitted and had to finish processing. Finally, on April 11, I called and the lady said she would reissue the check. On April 19th I received a letter (cp564) stating that the “refund check not delivered- new check to be issued.” It advised me to send in the form if the check does not arrive within 30 days of the notice date. (April 19, 2023) On the 30th day, May 19th, I called and the phones were all messed up. I finally spoke to someone on May 23rd and she claims the previous lady ordered the check and that it’s still within the time frame. Tomorrow is exactly 6 weeks from the notice date and my transcripts don’t give me a date nor does the where’s my refund page. It has been stuck on “We have received your tax return and it is being processed” for at least two months. What should I do? (I did send in the cp564 notice last week.) Thanks!

Hyrule Castle feels so subversive in TotK.
I completed Breath of the Wild 3 times and eventually grew to like it, but on my very first go, i was ultra-disappointed! I had heard the very week BotW shipped that the game was extraordinary and a masterpiece and this and that, but the trailers never hit me the right way, and so I already knew something was up when I had read that Calamity Ganon was a weak finale echoed by many. However, far most people said "the dungeons are weak, but just wait till you see Hyrule Castle. It's AMAZING!" So I tried to set expectations accoedingly.
But given Hyrule Castle is supposed to be endgame, even if BotW's premise is "you can beat the game when you want!" I was just so underwhelmed. Early in the game an NPC at a stables was like "see those waterfalls up the east side of Hyrule Castle? I bet if you could just swim up waterfalls, it would be a great way to infiltrate the castle!
So I thought, yo, this castle is gonna bring it. Everyone's saying how arduous it was to go through that dungeon, I'll definitely try that route!
But then I literally just went up 2 waterfalls in Zora gear and didn't even realize I was at the final boss when the cutscene triggered by entering the Sanctum. It just seemed way too obvious and easy. It also spoiled me completely of the dungeon everyone said was so great. The final boss itself is a great fight but I won't defend the concept or design. I thought it was completely lame, as a Zelda fan and as a big Ganon fanboy. Suffice it to say, BotW just didn't always click for me, and I'm happy to say TotK is the opposite so far.
After doing the first dungeon, I accidentally found Zelda's secret well at my old house in Hateno and found Zelda's notes. I had wanted to save Hyrule Castle for later, because I was literally afraid of having the same ending jumpscare by accidentally enteriny the wrong room, like the Sanctum, but her notes said to find the Champion's tunic inside the Throne Room. I had to do it.
I love how much the castle subverts your expectations as a BotW player. You aren't even sure if this is where the final boss will be. You can see much of the same level design, and the same enemy gauntlets scattered here and there, but just whem you're expecting the "TotK-version" of an encounter, something else happens. I went to one of the domes where the Lynels would normally appear only to find it peaceful and with a few weapons scattered. I explored the Sanctum freely now, and felt the history of my time in BotW reflected. I found the friggin DUSK BOW atop the tower which is so, so cool. I expected to find a trasure chest somewhere in the sanctum and finally realized it was a legit puzzle to unlock the sarcophagus to a chest. And man, they actually updated the Champion's tunic. It's so worth it. The bridge collapsing when going to Zelda's study was so unexpected. Contrary to BotW which hid some actual backstory inside the castle, TotK purposefully leaves it all derelict. There are no further notes to find by the King or by Zelda in their immediate rooms, because they haven't been here, because realistically, this history of Hyrule progressed past its apocalypse, so of course this isn't where Zelda would be after the events of the last game.
Everything feels so real, and so damn respectful of people who have the continuity of the last game, and I suppose after going through the rooms that this really is just a bonus game location now, and the finale happens in the sky or underground (DO NOT SPOIL OR I WILL USE DIRE MEANS!!!).
I simply love it!

2023.05.30 19:09 Full-Smell-6029 My uncle (50m) was invited to my cousin (30F) wedding with a known history of sexual assault.
So here’s the situation. My cousin is getting married in a few weeks. We will call her Willow (30F) She has a sister named Bella (30F) who grew up with my mom & her sister Violet (45F) and Gordy (50F). Way back when Gordys husband Eugene (50M) sexually assaulted my mom with my dad and my aunt Gordy both present. After this he had made some inappropriate comments and moves on Bella when she was a lot younger. Then, last year Eugene sexually assaulted Gordys best friend in the same way as my mom. Pretty much everyone in our entire family was wearing the Brittany shirt “dump him” in their minds. My family is also very fake though and not very assertive ie passive aggressive, talks behind peoples back, mental illness etc so who knows how much of that talk was genuine. We (excluding my Dad) saw Eugene at a party for my cousin last summer and it was very uncomfortable and awkward. Since the party my mom and I grew a lot closer and she started confiding in me with more and more that has happened and in turn we have been working on setting boundaries. I am of the opinion that my mom should never have had to be subjected to Eugene’s presence (the SA happened a few years ago) and he propositioned my mom again after at a hotel where my cousins and I were sleeping as well as Gordy. So obviously there is a pattern and at least 2 women who have been assaulted and others who have said that he has done things that have made them uncomfortable. In result of working on boundaries, my mom decided not to go to Eugene’s house for thanksgiving like we usually do and also decided to make it clear to Gordy that he is not invited to Christmas at our house. Apparently she’s had a problem with this since Christmas and hasn’t said anything until now. One of her children actually stayed home with Eugene which we didn’t know until recently as well. So here comes the problem: Willow wedding is in a couple of weeks and Eugene is invited and his invite has been accepted. Bella and I have talked about the situation extensively and she told me that Willow and her soon to be husband decided to leave it up to Gordy to invite Eugene or not. There are a few other events this summer that we may encounter him as well but we have decided to not attend and create plans with the person the events are honoring on our own instead. We can’t do this with the wedding because I am giving a reading during the ceremony. But I am having overwhelming anxiety knowing the situation. There will be an open bar which worries me because Eugene is an alcoholic and his “excuse” for sexually assaulting women is that he doesn’t remember due to drinking. My parents have made many strides this year and my Dad who was a heavy drinker his whole adult life is now sober and my mom very rarely partakes. The reception is also in the hotel that everyone is staying at. I feel that Willow should tell Gordy not to invite her husband due to the fact that he makes everyone uncomfortable including the maid of honor - Bella (her twin)! We are already RSVP’ed but I just feel like this is a big problem for me and I don’t know if I even want to go to the wedding anymore. I’m not sure what to do. I don’t understand why my family doesn’t see a problem with a serial predator being invited to a room full of liquored up young women. What can I say to my cousin to help her understand my perspective? We are pretty close and I don’t want to cancel on going to the wedding but I don’t want to put my family in harms way either.

As said in a earlier post of mine in this sub, I(15) am in a extremely toxic environment with my parents, they said if I stop going to church then they will take my cat away. I finally stood up to them and put my foot down and said that I will be attending my friends catholic church (in reality i will just go to her house and hang out for a few hours). They said I can go next Sunday! I feel like a giant weight has been taken off my shoulders, and my cat will be staying in the house! I just hope I can go to her house every sunday and even attend some of her church meetings!!

The owner is old school and I believe that’s why she failed. No online presence. In a very specific niche with a store in a town of 17k population. She completely ready to throw in the towel and move on. She’s been running sales all month and has moved quite a bit of inventory, but even at 50% off she is selling at a loss.
Anyways, I like to share my success stories on this sub and my growth. Started from $0 4 years ago. I never thought I’d be buying out local businesses as a side gig.

IMDB synopsis: "The Freeling family have a new house, but their troubles with supernatural forces don't seem to be over."
I'm cheating a bit on this one since I saw this in the theater as a six-year old (yes, I'm weird and my parents are weird). In any case, there was only one thing that I remembered about this film - a very gross scene that I won't spoil (although I'm surprised that I never see it mentioned in all the Reddit threads about the grossest/gnarliest scenes of all time).
So, yes, I got to see that scene again (and I still think it's the best part of the film). Overall, the film is...fine. The first "Poltergeist" is legendary (indeed, I think it's an underrated classic), but the sequel doesn't really build on the universe (it feels very repetitive, compared to the first film, in that sense) and I guess that should be considered a mark against it. Additionally, the tone was off - the whole family, minus the daughter, couldn't replicate the terror of the first film, emotionally-speaking, and there was too much corny comedy for my taste. On the positive side, there were some good jump scares/goriness and one character (played by Julian Beck) was legit creepy (indeed, he probably needed more screentime).
This film has been forgotten by everyone, but honestly, by 80's horror standards, it's no worse than average and horror buffs should give it a look.

First starters NP’s are divorced so I take care of NK’s at both houses depending on their schedule.
I was off for Memorial Day and since NK’s are off this week until summer camp starts my hours vary as each NP can pick what hours they’d like me to work on their days. MB told me her hours last Thursday, I advised DB to let me know his hours by end of day on Friday so I can plan accordingly, all he did was like the message. The weekend went by and I still hadn’t heard anything from DB so I texted Sunday night to ask for the hours again but still nothing.. Monday went by and still nothing until 10pm when DB told me to be there by 10am because he has plans at 11…
I said “Unfortunately I will not be available to work tomorrow due to late notice of hours. I do babysit for other families when i’m not needed to make up for missed hours which is why I ask to know my hours in advance. Please let me know my hours for Friday so I can plan accordingly. Thank you! See you Wednesday morning at 8:30am to pick up the boys.”

“So, what, I'm just supposed to sit in my car by the train tracks until you call?” I ask, as my car rolls to a stop. I regret the words as soon as they come out of my mouth.
“I thought you said this kid was smart?” Connor asks Johnny, from the back seat.
“I thought he was, too. Yes, obviously. Wait here – and cut the headlights, goddammit,” Johnny says, looking at me from the front seat of my Monte Carlo and shaking his head. He looks furious. He is sweaty, despite Old Man Winter starting to get his grip on Maryland. I look away from him and cut the headlights off.
The freezing rain that is coming down is a perfect match for Johnny’s mood and our plan tonight. Johnny is dopesick. Besides the sweat on his face, his visible irritation, and his obvious anxiety, his wide eyes and pupils are a dead giveaway to a fellow junkie. He no longer looks like the healthy and decent-looking kid that I saw when he got out of jail.
He looks absolutely skeletal, his cheeks sunken in from his heroin habit. He has bags under his eyes, and they somehow look equally terrible during both the over-stimulation of withdrawal and the extreme sedation of a dose of heroin. He is sick now, but he was incredibly high last night. So was I.
I still am. Despite how high on heroin I am, I am not high enough to think that I look better. I would never want anybody that I know to see me right now. I don’t even want to see myself.
Johnny gets out of the car. Connor, a blonde haired, blue-eyed, Irish-looking kid, follows suit. I push the ‘trunk’ button to open the trunk and hear it pop open. I cringe at how loud the sound is. I watch my side view mirror.
I see Johnny and Connor pull two shirts out of the trunk and wrap them around their faces, while they are illuminated by the surreal red color of my brake lights. I have extra shirts that I keep in the trunk in case I soak mine through with sweat while playing ball, and now they are being used in a robbery.
I can see the gravel road that is underneath us stretching out behind us. The gravel road is surrounded by huge, old trees. We are deep in the sticks. About a half mile back are the train tracks where I will wait. Connor and Johnny move out, towards a very small and well concealed driveway.
I start to pull off, slowly, not turning on my headlights yet, even though I can’t see anything at all. I listen to the gravel crunching underneath my car, my entire body clenched as I drive, hoping that I don’t hit a tree. These properties are huge. I couldn’t even see most of the houses from the road, even when it was daylight outside. These are double digit-acre properties.
Johnny is probably right. This is going to be one hell of a come-up. I manage to drive only a little further down the road before I turn my headlights back on, too scared to keep driving into the pitch-black dead of night. I go half a mile and then turn around in somebodies’ driveway, careful to back in, conscious of where I shine my headlights.
Ok, now back to the train tracks until Johnny calls. My heart starts to beat faster.
How did this happen? I was clean. I was so happy. I thought I wasn’t an alcoholic. I drank, and drank again, and drank again. It doesn’t matter if it was just on the weekends for a while. I should’ve known I was going to smoke, too, eventually. I started to smoke, I stopped playing ball, and I started hanging out with Johnny all the time.
Alcohol gave me a hangover. Weed took it away. I became a stoner again, and adderall helped me get through the lazy fog of the weed burnout and force myself to play ball again – until it made me too anxious. The anxiety led me back to oxy. It was only supposed to be one time; one 30mg pill.
Now, I’m doing heroin again.
Of course. With heroin comes robbery. The cycle is complete – well, it will be once I get arrested again, and I definitely will.
I park at the train tracks and turn my car off. The car that I paid off with money that I worked for while I was clean and happy.
Didn’t matter. Never does. Nothing matters, Lonnie.
Not the ‘nothing matters’ thought loop. Please. Anything but this.
I reach into the inside of my left sock and pull the last of my heroin out. The 3 of us bought some last night. They have no self-control or hustle, which is why they are broke and dopesick right now.
I pour some of it onto the ‘Illmatic’ CD case I keep in my car. I use the same CD case to sniff my drugs, every time.
The heroin is a chunky tan powder. It is Baltimore’s ‘raw’ heroin. It’s good, but I know I can find better. I am generous in my self-prescription. After all, robbery anxiety can’t be good for my health. I sniff the dope slowly, hoping to ease the burn that always ensues upon insufflation. It doesn’t burn too bad this time.
I put everything away and recline the driver’s seat. That ought to do the trick. I lean back as far as I can, and then tilt my head back. I sit and wait for the God of dreams, Morpheus, to say hello. The warmth, the muscle relaxation, the dreamy euphoria. The itch, even.
I can’t wait. I hate waiting.
I wait. A minute, then two. Then, I start to feel an extremely pleasant tingle in the back of my neck. All of my limbs become comfortable and warm.
Ah, there it is. Like the tickle of an angel. My whole body relaxes with pleasure. Parts of my body that I didn’t even know I could relax wind up relaxing. All of my needs are satisfied. I have not one worry in the world.
Why am I trying to keep my eyes open? They don’t even need to be open.
A loud, frantic, continuous series of knocks startles me awake. I can hear Johnny's voice before my eyes adjust to my environment.
"-the fucking door"
I semi-spring into action, fumbling for the handle only to find the door locked. I see Johnny running around the hood of my car, over to the passenger side. I hear Connor hitting his fist loudly, aggressively, and repeatedly against the trunk of the car. I unlock the doors, pop the trunk, and then glance in the mirror just in time to see Connor put something in my trunk.
The passenger door opens a millisecond after it is unlocked. It remains open for a few seconds. The trunk slams, and Connor appears, diving smoothly into the back seat.
“Go-go-go,” Johnny says, as he locks the passenger seat back into place, sits down, and slams the door in one motion. He almost closes it on his own leg. The interior of the car plunges into darkness as I start it, put it in drive, and pull off as quickly as I can. I can maintain silence for less than a second of driving.
“What did we get?” I ask. My nose itches. I itch it.
“We?” Connor asks from the back seat.
“Yeah, WE,” I say, unable to keep anger from edging into my voice. “The only reason I didn't come in with you guys is cuz you told me not to,” I add.
“Yeah, because you don't need the money,” Johnny says. I glance over at him. Even through the darkness, I can tell he is sweating even more than before, though he no longer seems angry. They must have made out good, for Johnny to suddenly be able to control his rage and tolerate his sickness like this.
“Bullshit. I need the money,” I say, looking back to the gravel road in front of us. I have to take us back to Johnny’s grandmas’ place. It is at least a 30-minute drive.
“You aren't even sick, Lambo,” Johnny says, softly, like a parent trying to calm their kid down.
“What did you come up on in there?” I ask. I have to know.
“Don't worry about it. You'll get your weed,” Connor interjects quickly. I say nothing. I look back over at Johnny. He's staring at the road. I keep staring at him, waiting for him to look back at me, but he never does.
“Fuck you, Connor,” I say. He chuckles, the way he might at a kid.
45 minutes later.
Johnny gave me extra hashish to assuage his guilt. I know they found a LOT of money in that house. Johnny knew it was loaded. He knew there were pounds of hash, pounds of weed, and fat stacks of cash. That's why we hit it. Fuck them for not even letting me see the inside of the cooler.
My mind takes me back to something Connor said, yet again.
“That's all you get. Unless you're a dope boy in disguise,” he sneered at me, before giving me only half of the ounce of hashish that he was supposed to give me. Dope fiends are the lowest of the low, but dope boys...
I'm off probation. I can make a run at selling heroin. I have thousands of dollars saved from being clean and working my ass off. In our city, heroin sells for quadruple what it does in Baltimore. Go to Baltimore, buy heroin, bring it back here, sell it, quadruple my money. Easy.
I drive and scheme as to how I am going to do it. No way that motherfucker Connor will be involved. I get back to my parents’ house, sniff more dope, and lay in bed. As the dope hits me, it becomes easier and easier to see myself as a heroin kingpin. I have much greater resources now than in my old oxy dealing days. I could really pull it off – especially with Johnny’s help. I can see myself in that Benz I wanted so badly in high school.
I float and drift further into my fantasy, and my waking dream becomes a dreamless nothing.

I'm looking at the potential for adding lemonade to my hot dog cart to boost sales. I'm really not selling all that many sodas and the markup on those is pretty small, anyway. And especially once it gets into the 90s, lots of folks will want lemonade.
Certainly most people do fresh-squeezed. However I've also seen a few people use lemonade concentrate--not the powder stuff but a liquid concentrate you still add sugar to and supposedly it tastes similar or better to fresh squeezed.
I partly lean toward concentrate with the idea of keeping my per-customer service time down, particularly because I get a number of construction workers in my lines who will walk if they have to wait long.
Though I'm also wondering if a cooler of pre-mixed lemonade won't be viewed as worth $4 regardless of how it tastes.

We moved into this east-facing dorma bungalow last year and have just started shaping the front and back gardens. I'm a huge fan of little cottage gardens and I'd love to cover the front of the house in roses (mainly arching around the doorway and the blank white space to the left. I don't know if a potted rose from the left side of the house would be enough room for it to grow happily, or whether I'd need to plant from the right hand side in the soil bed? Basically, I'm looking for something that will ideally cover the area as fast as possible. I bought a New Dawn rose from David Austin a couple of months back and have been growing in a big pot where the white space is - it was just a placeholder that I fell in love with at the time - I'm still undecided where to put her just yet! But after some research, I figured a rambler might be best for coverage/growth rate? I was also looking for a pale pink variety with smallish-medium repeat flowers or at least a long flowering season to get the best out of them. What would you guys recommend? TIA TLDR Need rose recommendations to cover east facing bungalow. Was looking for a good growth rate, repeat flowerer with small/medium blossoms and foliage for the majority of the year. Needs to either be grown from a large container if coming from the left or reach all the way across from the right soil bed. |
2023.05.30 19:07 Human-Ad-4310 Not sure how to get my clothes smelling fresh help
So, I am new to doing laundry, not new per say I always did laundry for my grandmother, but she would sort the clothes and I would just start the load. I know how to separate the clothes, but I have no idea what to use!! Currently I use Tide detergent and Downy Fabric softener. I have heard that fabric softener does not help at all and can make the problem worse. The problem I am having is a residue on my armpit region in my shirts as well as the clothes not really smelling fresh. Some people say use vinegar while others say it destroys the machine-like fabric softener. Some people say essential oils in dryer balls but that is a fire hazard. I just want good fresh smelling clothes any advice is appreciated!! My washer and dryer are both pretty old as well, me and my partner are freshly moved out of our parents houses and have hand-me-downs, so I don't want to damage them anymore than they already are.

I’ll keep this brief:
I’m too shy to ask people for money for photography. That’s a big downfall. But when it comes to payment, I always crack under the pressure of believing my work isn’t good enough. I’m sure I could make some extra £s this way but Brighton, where I live, is flooded with talented young photographers who are better at more in demand photography/videography work (food, concert and video work.)
If anyone can suggest a magical place that I could move to while I have an opening in my life, or just any advice on what to do with this money/lack of responsibility, I would greatly appreciate it.
I understand - you can’t tell me how to live my life. But maybe you know a cool, Spanish speaking, aesthetically pleasing place to try and escape the rat race.
Any suggestions??

- I’m 26 years old, not ugly, not handsome, not super smart, not super dumb. No degree but plenty of experience. No pets, girlfriend or anything tying me down to anywhere or anyone.
- I can speak intermediate Spanish after living with and dating a Spanish girl in Valencia.
- I have a half decent job in tech sales but it will be coming to an end in mid-July I anticipate. I have 5-6 years experience working in Tech sales.
- I believe I’m a skilled photographer. It’s the only thing I truly know I’m good at.
- I suffer from crippling social anxiety and depression, culminating in suicidal ideations and episodes. However, my best friend and housemate (as well as others) tell me I don’t show it when I’m around others. Deep inside I feel hopeless and like a stuttering, slow mess.
- My horrendously expensive apartment lease will be coming to an end early September.
- I live in the UK but have itchy feet to live in another country again. I have a ton of friends in Australia, Japan and Canada mostly. Good connections in Spain also.
- I will have around £6k in the bank by September to do something with.

My wife and I have a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country. The check engine light came on for the ambient temperature sensor because it had been hanging and got torn off somehow. My temp reading in the van just showed -- (nothing).
I had to buy the new sensor as well as wiring harness connector thing for it (with 2 wires coming out of it) because the wires that go into the housing were just bare wires. I connected all the wires and plugged the sensor in and now the check engine light is still on for the same reason but it now gives a temp reading of -38 Farenheit.
Does anyone know what I did wrong? I can't find anything on youtube or google resolving my issue other than saying it needs to be replaced, but it's brand new.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
