Hey everyone, I’m a 20 year diabetic finally going through the process of getting on a pump. I’ve had a Dexcom system for about 6 years, but until recently the pump was expensive and difficult to get approved through my company. The timing felt fortuitous as the 5 is now out, and I really want a closed loop, simple solution.
My endo walked me through it during my last visit a few weeks ago and I was sold. So I did the onboarding and waited for the trainer to reach out. Today, after the initial discussion, I’m pretty disappointed. Part of the reason this system made so much sense to me was because I didn’t have to carry anything on me, just my phone, and I could control and see everything. But that’s not the case, as the Omnipod doesn’t support the iPhone, and there’s no timeline for support. Just “working.” I feel like I was sold a bit of a false bill of goods, and while I wish I would’ve looked into that further, I did speak with my endo originally and he simply said I could control everything from my phone.
I have a high stress, highly volatile job that has me constantly doing unexpected things, and the challenge for me is always making sure I have my insulin on me when I’m thrown a curve ball, which isn’t always the case. This was to solve that and allow me to actually be able to eat instead of go all day without eating because I’m afraid of going uncontrollably high, and also keep me from hitting the lows. Obviously it’ll do the former, but if I forget my controller, which as someone with adhd I’m pretty confident I’ll do, I’m in the same boat.
I just can’t believe they don’t have iOS support. I realize this ain’t a big deal for some people, but I’m so totally disappointed.

I stayed in numerous different hotels and apartments.. some near 11th street & pacific, Norfolk Ave, and lived on 14th as well too. When I lived on 11th, I remember people getting mugged often, things and cars stolen, a lot of drug addicts were my neighbors and there was just a lot of shit going on. I think at some point someone was even shot or killed outside of my place. I'm taking about sometime in the early 2000s specifically.
I'm just curious because I told myself I'd never go back but Im about to move that way again.

I am a goalkeeper on a basically recreational Ayso team I would say I’m the best goalkeeper in the league but the coaches have no clue on how to train goalkeepers. I also practice with friends who are 2 years older and occasionally with 20 yr olds but it’s just shooting on me. How can I get better ?

I am just a teenage girl, that realizes how her family really is. I despise them now that I realize everything and can no longer see them the same.
I have a younger brother who’s only 12, ever since the age of 5 he always hated our mother and step-father. He got worser towards them throughout the years, he’s a monster in my eyes but I do not blame him. He always swore up and down that our mother cheated on our biological dad with our step-father. Though at the time my mom always said our step father was just a coworker and nothing more.
I always explained to my brother that the reasoning our mom left our dad was because he was abusive. He refused to believe me, also said that wasn’t true, and the only reason he acted violent towards our mother is because he found out she was cheating. He always tried to bring it up to our dad when we visit but he always said he messed and our mom left for the best. He always denied everything my brother tried to confirm which always made him mad for covering up for our mom.
I remember past events when my uncle was caught cheating on his pregnant ex-girlfriend that he’s been with since middle school. I was there when it happened and nothing was said after that, my mom, grandma and aunts covered up for him till she caught him with the side chick that’s now his fiancé and he cheated on her with one of my aunts friends. They left to a hotel at the middle of a party and my family find it funny but keep it hidden so his fiancé won’t know.
Another event when we were at a family gathering and my one of my aunts invited a guy while my uncle wasn’t there. Turns out my aunt was cheating on my uncle with him and my family covered up for her and made sure my uncle doesn’t find out. Their engaged and have a 5 year old, she’s still seeing him and my uncle does not know till this day.
And my other aunt confessing to my mom about her cheating on my uncle with a friend of his at a party while intoxicated. Right in front of me, which all I could do was stay in shock. Their married and have 5 kids together.
My grandma is currently seeing a married man, goes to hotels with him on weekends and nobody says anything.
I don’t want to say anything to anyone, as I’m told to keep my mouth shut and not say anything. I have a cousin my age, and we feel nothing but guilt everyday. As we watch everyone look happy knowing their either being cheated on or was cheated on.
They make jokes when their s/o isn’t around and find it funny of what they did.

Hey all, I’m looking to hear a bit about anyone’s experiences with thickener or thickened formula.
A bit of backstory: Our LO is 8 months now, and we’ve struggled so hard with reflux/vomiting since she was about 2 weeks old. We’ve tried everything - I stopped breastfeeding at 7 weeks after trying to eliminate inflammatory foods, HA formula, reflux meds (helped with pain and sleep thankfully), and have settled on a lactose reduced formula and just always being ready with a million burp cloths and outfit changes. Now that she’s sitting and crawling she stopped gaining weight again since she’s puking so much. I’d heard of AR and spit up formulas, but have never been able to order them here in Canada due to the shortages.
Then, we went on a trip to France and ran out of our lactose reduced formula due to some poor estimating on how much she’d need on my part. We nervously tried Gallia’s “Galligest” - and immediately noticed a difference. We went from like 20 large spit ups a day to 3-5 small ones. She can crawl and sit without being a human fountain of vomit. It’s amazing.
Now, we’re back in Canada and wondering what our move is. It’s obvious how incredibly helpful thickened formula is, but it’s never available here it seems. Do any Canadians order formula from abroad and have any experience there? Or use a thickener? We can chat with the pediatrician too, but appointments with her book a solid month out, and it seems very cautious to go back to our usual formula to wait for her opinion when we’ve found something that is working. Any advice/stories/cautionary tales are appreciated!

Alright so first things first, I live in a state where drinking on the clock/behind the bar is 100% illegal. It can result in fines and the bar losing its liquor license.
I’ve only been at the new gig for about six months and I enjoy it here for the most part. Customers are cool, evening money is good, and the managers don’t micromanage. I know my state laws regarding alcohol consumption while working. With that being said, if a coworker wants to take a couple of shots throughout the evening I’m not going to complain. It’s their choice and if they’re doing their job and handling their liquor well, I don’t really care.
On to the problem, I work with one girl who goes on “field trips” (AKA going to the bar next door to have a shot or two) quite literally six or more times a shift. She’s gone for 20-40 minutes at a time. By the end of the night she’s hammered. It’s clear she’s drunk, customers have commented on seeing her railing shots at the next door bar, and her disappearing for hours over the course of her shift is obviously impacting service. It’s particularly annoying to me because we pool tips here and she’s getting paid literally the same amount as me when she’s only working 2/3s or less of her shift.
I don’t want to sound like a hard ass or a goody two shoes. I like alcohol. I like being tipsy. I like being drunk. But this girl is impacting my job and my money and I’m beyond frustrated. She’s been at my gig for a while, so she typically gets priority shifts which is also kind of frustrating because I know she spends so much of her time fucking off.
I spoke to one of my managers about it in passing, but both of my managers are friends with her and just kind of laughed it off. They agreed that it was a problem, but essentially said that the owner hired her and there’s nothing they can do about it.
I don’t know if I’m asking for advice or just venting, but I’m so tired of getting second rate shifts with six years of high volume + craft cocktail experience to a woman who spends a good portion of her time at work at the bar next door. What would you do, I guess?

I guess I got nothing to lose, so here it goes. I lost my wallet on the SolTrans Blue Line at the silo stop at around 5:20 pm last Thursday. I’m not a huge dog person by any means, but even I see a problem with this. My MIL has three dogs. Two of them are small like under 20 lbs, Spot and Fluffy, and she’s had them for 7+ years. During the pandemic she out of the blue got a third dog, without telling anyone she was going to. (She lives alone so she didn’t have to, of course.) This new dog, Fido, is a large German Shepherd.
Fido is about 4-5 years old and mostly untrained. Apparently Fido has been returned to the shelter three times previously. My MIL is a dog lover and took pity on Fido, so adopted him. But, being untrained, Fido did not get on well with the other two dogs - especially Spot, who is small but rambunctious and loud. Actually it’s mostly that Spot doesn’t like Fido, and always barks and growls when he sees Fido running around or doing anything. Fido wants to play with Spot, but being so much larger, always ends up hurting and scaring Spot. So Fido and Spot need to be separated at all times. At one point MIL paid for training, which helped but it didn’t work to let the two dogs be together - especially unsupervised. There’s also been a few times where Fido has gotten into the house from the backyard somehow when my MIL wasn’t home and messed up furniture and hurt the other dogs. The little dogs were very traumatized by that.
So Fido is pretty much always separated. My MIL has a big backyard but Fido only goes out there maybe 30mins to an hour a day. Fido is often left on the enclosed back porch, which is a decent size. But more recently Fido has been almost always in his crate inside the living room, except to go do his business outside. My MIL says it’s because Fido likes to be around people, and doesn’t want to be alone outside. But this is a very big dog in a very small crate all day, even when people are home. Fido barely gets pets and never gets walked, because my MIL has health issues and can’t go on walks. She says she can’t take him back to the shelter because Fido already been returned so many times and she thinks he will be put down.
When we visit, I’ve offered to take Fido on walks and she says no because Fido is too aggressive with other dogs that we might run into on a walk.
I feel like it’s not ethical to keep this dog in this condition. But idk anything about dogs to be honest. We can’t take her, and she don’t know anyone who can. So what should happen? (At this point it would be a matter of what my husband should convince my MIL to do.) Just leave it be? Return to shelter? Something else?

So I had a gastric emptying test (with Ensure drink) and I was a bit surprised to find out I fall under "moderate" category as I thought I'd been doing better lately. But I am thankful it's not severe. I had just expected mild or none. Sometimes I think I even rapid dump but. Anyway.
What was interesting to me was.... my first 1 hour was 73%, 2 hours 47%, that is within normal range for solids anyway and maybe same thing with Ensure. Then after hour 3 still had 40% and 4 still had 28%, supposed to be under 10%. So apparently that qualifies for GP diagnosis. I have an appointment to discuss my options (probably trying domperidone again...).
I am not looking for medical advice because I know what's going on (I have EDS and already had endoscopies, this isn't new) but I've never had this specific test so it makes me curious. I can't find any info online.
Is this a "usual" result for GP? I am curious why my stomach does okay then suddenly goes "actually, let's keep this food then make her nauseous" LOL. I have immediate nausea and pain when I eat or drink, but it's sometimes tolerable unless I eat twice in 1 day then I'm sometimes in agony. So that actually makes sense if I'm only "moderate".
I also think I could have skewed results a little as I was bored after the drink and took a brisk 20 minute walk around the hospital and then realized that may skew results and sat down with all the other wait-ers lol. :[

What to do about tree roots taking over a vegetable garden? How far out do spruce tree roots reach?
In my backyard, to get good sunlight vs shade I had to split things into two plots: (1) behind the garage and (2) along the northern fence line under mature Norway Spruce trees. I knew that eventually the roots of the trees would find the improved soil and invade. After all, when originally digging out the plot 6 years ago I encountered some roots, depending on how deep I went. After 3 years of successful crops in which I didn't till the soil very much, tree root invasion began to be an issue, so I re-dug the plot to single shovel depth. It wasn't too bad and it was good exercise. But after another 3 years the root invasion got more serious this time and I had to go double shovel depth. After this experience I'm confronted with the reality of digging out the 6' x 14' plot every 5 years. That's ridiculous so I'm going to have to relocate, but where and how?
The issue is a combination of (1) moving far away from the trees/fence and (2) moving less far but also using root barriers.
First, how close can I be to the trees without the roots being a problem? I'm a little bit limited by having an asphalt driveway back there and also want to avoid blocking the space in the middle of the yard. The tree trunks are about 5' from the fence. So what's reasonably safe? 25' from the trees (20' from the fence)? 20' from the trees (15' from the fence)? I really can't go that far.
Second, I think I can stay closer to the fence if I bury underground root barriers like this: https://www.deeproot.com/products/root-barrie They come in different depths, ranging from 1' to 4' depth, so that's another consideration. Suppose I don't relocate and just install them right now (5' from trees, 0' from fence). Seeing the roots I just re-cleared, I know that if I used a 1' deep barrier, roots would find their way under that pretty quickly. The same would eventually happen with a 2' root barrier. Even if I went down 4' being so close to the trees, I'm guessing there will be some deep roots that will send shoots upward. So I have to move away from the trees/fence, but this is the tricky part... what's a good combination of distance and depth. If I move 10' from the trees (5' from the fence) I think a 4' root barrier would probably work. But they are NOT cheap and I'd have to bring in a machine to dig that deep, so it doesn't work that would be massive waste of effort and money. If I move 15' from the trees (10' from the fence), I'm guessing the roots that far out are more shallow and I could get away with a 3' barrier which is a depth I'm willing to dig manually.
So what do people think? I don't want to give up that plot.

I have a Student Job (Contract specified 17 hours per week). Lately, I have been falling short on meeting this hours per week requirement. So, I wanted to ask that can I work more than 20 hours a week to cover up the lost hours?
Thing is this week we have an 'Excursion week' at my University this week and no classes. I already worked full day today. So let's say can I work full days the rest of the 3 days of the week as well (which will exceed 20 working hours this week for me)?
And in general, can I work more than 20 hours on some weeks to cover up the lost hours?
I'm asking because I have been varying things about our work hours as international non-EU Students. Some people say '960 hours per year' (no matter how it's done). Some people say "120 full days or 240 half days". Some people say "20 hours max in lecture period and 40 hour max in semester break". So I'm kinda confused.

Whilst he is 8 years old hear me out on this one. he identifies as a dog, his pronouns are good/boy he litrelly walks on all fours and barks I put him on a leash and walk him because that's what he identifies as. As we know dogs age differently to humans they have a different life span a dog who is 20 is a grandma or a grandpa and they mature way quickly than humans. Sophia is a thief-turned merchant (swap @20, now 28) and is running paragon. 88/84/205 stat spread)
Maria is an acrobatic lvl 28 priest who I want to eventually make a sage but lack group healing atm (41s/154a/62w/147/124 hp&mp)
And Cindy was a vamp soldier (25) turned clown martial artist (122s/123a/218hp).
Should I keep similar party until I beat Baramos? Should I swap Maria now with sage book or make gadabout->sage quickly and re-level? Any advice or criticism is welcome.

2007 GX470 with 57,110 miles, bone stock from the original owner. Asking price is $20,500
2010 GX460 with 103,000 miles. Lifted with Bilstein shocks, Side mounted ditch lights and Roof rack with awning side tent included. He has owned it for about 2 years. Asking price is $22,500 but is flexible on the price. (Note: running boards have been removed and front bumper has been cut for additional ground clearance)
I am leaning towards the 470, but wanted to see what the rest of you all think since you have a whole lot more experience with these vehicles than I do!
Will be used as a secondary vehicle to haul larger things and to take the dog with me on road trips. (I will either remove the third row seats on the 470 or keep the third row folded flat on the 460). I will do some light off roading when I go shooting, but will not be rock crawling or doing anything radical.

Me and girl have known each other for decade plus. Knew her in school, both now in early 20’s. She was very shy and never really hung out in any of the same social groups but we always got along well.
Mostly fell out of touch after high school but would text maybe a few times a year to catch up. Reconnected a few weeks ago and hung out just doing random stuff - getting food/ice cream, just venting to each other about how work/school sucks, etc. Lots of banter as well. Texting increased infinitely as it’s pretty regular throughout work hours to pretty much constant before and after. I’m usually up at 4:30 to start work at 6:00 and I’m always met with “good morning” and “it’s going to be a good day” texts within 10 minutes of my shift starting.
Talked to a few of my buddies (all in long-term relationships) who all gave the go ahead that something was definitely going on. Asked her out and was met with an uncertain “let me think about it”. Predictably, was met with a negative response, basically saying how she’s not against it in general but now isn’t the best time (but she left it extremely open-ended.
Following day, she texts me again apologizing for leading me on and that she really enjoyed having me as a friend and being able to talk to me about things. She even sent me a list of reasons that she can’t make work (none of them being “me” problems, which tells me I’m being let down softly).
Most consisted of her own situation problems surrounding how she doesn’t wanna make group outings awkward if anything happened, how she wouldn’t want to hurt me, how she’s not relationship material, how she likes me too much to risk losing me as a friend, all generic bullshit cookie cutter reasons. I told her not to worry about it and whatever, but did follow up about the open-ended statement because it was admittedly bugging me a bit. She said she’d maybe be open to it later on but didn’t want me waiting, to which I said something to the effect of “I appreciate that, thanks for letting me know”.
After that, she almost immediately backtracked her “rejection” and said she just needs more time to think about it. Her exact words were that she’s “emotionally behind”. She said we could talk about it later to which I told her to take some time to herself to figure out what she wants, and that nothing would change (though I’m not sure if that last part’s actually true).
Since then, she’s been very generous with her actions, bringing me meds and candy when I told her I called in sick to work a couple days later (genuinely sick, unrelated to this. Told her not to bother and that I appreciated the gesture but she wasn’t taking no for an answer), and is still in regular contact and maintaining the same sort of relationship as before.
I guess my real question: do you think she’s actually thinking about it or just overcompensating for what she feels she did to me? I reaffirmed her that it was all good either way but she’s leading me on even more now if anything.
And no, she is by no means an attention seeker. Her previous boyfriends haven’t even been able to get this much attention from her before.
